Public relations professionals are much more likely to say they are politically progressive compared with the general population of the United States, according to recent research from the NYU School of Professional Studies and PR Week.

The report was based on data from two surveys: The first polled 153 PR professionals and PR graduate students age 20 and older, and the second polled a representative sample of 2,500 US residents age 18 and older.

Some 68% of the PR professionals surveyed identify their political ideology as progressive, compared with just 26% of the general population surveyed.

Some 83% of PR pros say they are progressive on social issues, compared with 31% of the general US population.
