How are content marketing roles changing? Which skills and degrees are employers looking for? Are salaries increasing?
To find out, researchers at Semrush examined 8,000 content marketing job listings on Indeed.com.
The researchers found that employers are increasingly looking for content marketers who have data literacy and narrative expertise, with "analytics" and "writing" appearing as the most listed required skills for both senior and other positions.

Employers appear to be shifting away from looking for candidates with traditional liberal arts degrees and towards more technical and business-oriented degrees.
Compared with results from a similar survey conducted in 2023, requirements for "English" and "Journalism" degrees fell by 47% and 37%, respectively, for executive content marketing roles.

The researchers found that since 2023, the median pay listed for content marketing roles has increased by 54% for senior positions and 29% for other roles.

Some 34% of the senior content marketing job listings examined and 19% of execution-level listings examined mentioned "AI."
