General format for case studies are as follows:

    I. Problem statement - What is it you are trying to solve?
II. History/background facts - several paragraphs to explain who/who/where/when/why - think of this as a newspaper article explaining what happened and how it lead to the place where you come in to the situation to solve the problem.

III. Problem Analysis - In this section, you put the problem into context of the tools you will use. This section will have lots of citations of theoretical and academic information. For instance, if you were using Levitt's Whole Product Model, you will cite an article explaining the models and explain how which parts of the problem history fit into the model.

IV. Recommendations - Based on the analysis, what actions do you recommend that the study subject take.

    V. Conclusions - this should include the problem, analysis, and recommendations restatement, assumptions, further study needed, all further actions that should be taken to better understand the problem and refine recommendations

For examples, go to your library and look up Harvard Business Review articles.

    I hope this helps.
