Finding "best Read" Blogs

So, I know the tools to use to locate blogs in my topic area. (At least I think I do. Google, technorati, & blogged are on my radar screen.)

But what's the most efficient way to figure out which blogs are the most popular/most read?

I look for posts and replies. If there isn't very many, you know that it's not an active blog. You can also type in the blog URL into https://www.alexa.com and see the traffic ranking.

(Note: A number of blogs don't allow posting, and a number of blogs are read from the RSS feed, not the site itself)

You can also look at the number of RSS subscribers to a blog (which isn't always available/public):
