Marketing Via Email - Frequency?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
New corporate gifts company - want to get new products in front of customers via email ; however do not want to over do it. How often is acceptable to give them "news" or updates?

And what is the best format to use when getting images (product centric business) onto prospects/cleints desktops?

If they're customers, once a month is fine, but during certain times of the year (Christmas) you may want to go every 3 weeks.

If they are prospects you may want to go with quarterly...unless you do an opt-in.

I suggest going with ONE very small picture in the e-mail and then hot link to the webpage. Many company's e-mail programs eliminate graphics and you end up with "X-boxes"...so, make sure text is on top and graphics below.

    Kathy,

There is no rule for frequency, what should determine frequency is the "freshness" and value to your subscribers of what is featured in your email marketing campaigns.

I have customers who send once a week and customers who send every 2 months because this is the frequency with which they have new products/services/information that provides value for which their customers want to be communicated to.

However, as a guideline for the corporate gift market, with which I am familiar, I would suggest initially not more than twice a month, 1 campaign being an informative newsletter format, the other being a brief "specials" format.

Not sure what you mean about "getting images" but I think what you mean is jpeg images in an html format - this is the most common, with gifs being used for "non-photo" images.

These are simply created with an image editing program and put into an html format or from existing html format ready images.

It is best to use a 3rd- party for building and delivering these html newsletters, somebody like www.constantcontact.com

    I hope that helps.
