I believe you are going to have to do the library to do some research on this. Here’s a book I found advertised via Amazon. You might check to see if the library has a copy. Otherwise, make an appointment with the research librarian. The research librarian is an invaluable “partner” for your papers and this person loves to have inquisitive people ask for their help. BUT, as with your other question, they expect that you will do a fair bit of work yourself first.

You may find information on line, but NOT a magic website. The web doesn’t have everything and isn’t even a good resource for information most times because you can never be sure that the information is real or correct. If you do research for a paper, it’s best to use ProQuest, InfoTrak, or Ebsco – these are major databases of articles and papers. You can even request only papers that are peer reviewed so you can be sure that the citations are legit and the background research was done well.

This topic may be a two part research. First, search for product failures. You may have to use “marketing failures” versus product failures in the search string. Product failures will yield a lot of quality/reliability/safety issues. After you find some listed (New Coke being one of the classics) – then you can research each product failure one by one to get the necessary information on why.

The ipod is a great example of a failed product that was relaunched.

I was at a presentation once and as far as i remmber there is an online museum for fialed products on the US market and even products that never hit the market. sicne teh presenter used images from taht museum i assume it was an online one.

If I were looking for this, I'd pick one or two such products, and do a Google search such as:

+edsel +"new coke"

I'd expand my list of similar products, do more searches on various combinations, and in an hour I'd have more than enough info. Good luck.
