I know you've closed this question, but I think you should look at ConstantContact. I use them with many of my clients and for the price it does a great job. It also has a forward to friends option in the outgoing email as well as recently they began reporting by campaign how many people (and who) used the feature.

Check out some of the open source tools out there. PHPlist, or ListMessenger are excellent packages. Check out www.sourceforge.net and do a search for email marketing. Contact me privately, and I'd be happy to give you a live tour of the opensource Content Management System I'm using with a few email packages built right into it.
