Sugarcrm Or Other

Posted by adammjw on 500 Points
Dear Colleagues,

One of my clients is on the verge of contemplating which one of the available CRM systems will be the best to integrate into his new interactive web-based solution to come.
He is a strong believer in open source solutions and SugarCRM was suggested as one of recommended tools.
Have any of you had some positive or negative experience with SugarCRM? What are the obvious, if any, drawbacks to that tool.
Pls share with me your knowledge and experience you may have with this respect.

Adam

    Gary,

    Thanks for your remarks.
The company is medium under East-European circumstances.Up to now brick-and-mortar nowadays in order to face new challenges has to overhaul its way of doing business. It's both the readiness of all stakeholders as well expectations of the public.
The initial idea is to integrate Yomla CMS with either SugarCRM or V-tiger.
For the moment ERP solutions like Compiere are too far-fetched to be used in the company.
The first look seems to be in favor of Sugar as other systems do not come in local language version, which would be quite a drawback given poor knowledge of English within the company.

    Hi Adam,

As you must be aware that this is a competitive world so mostly you will find the cost almost similar for every CRM. But as i have used siebel, sugar CRM and salesforce , i would say that if you compare all of them you would opt for salesforce because of its user-friendly attitue, easy customization and lot of other factors as well. You can feel free to contact me via phone or e-mail and then you would feel that salesforce would be the best , siebel - good , and sugar - average.

    With regards,
    ritesh.,

    Jaded,

Thanks for your precious gulidelines and warnings.
The system integration will not only be supervised but insatlled by professional IT company. They will laso be responsible or maintaining the system further on.
The got immense experience with open source integration processes, but of course leave the decision as to the choice to the client.

    Markitek,

Thanks for your input, you seem to support my own views.
Some guys also say that V-tiger can be viewd as a good alternative.
What are, if any, advantages of one over the other?

    bijlani.ritesh,

Thank you for your opinion.Quite a lot of people are full of praise for salesforce. I' m well aware of the fact that it is easily customizable and smart.
However I have to factor in :

1/ customer's preference for open source
2/ local language version which salesforce misses

    Dear Tanle,

Of course both of them will go through " click and feel" testing. However as you know it takes more tan a couple of weeks of test-running to see even some major disadvantages of the solution.
The differences you pointed to are important.Even more so as the company is planning to shift its focus from mere stocking and trading company to full-service company operating via both VARs and distributors.
Great thanks for your valuable input.

    Alicia,

Thanks a lot for your valuable input.
I know about Sugar main advantages and mostly drawbacks are important to me.
One of them is definitely no product categories which they could handle somehow via projects, but no workflow customization is a major flaw.
    Thanks again.

    Alicia,

Now it's only the problem to convince them that it's well worth the money to have it in Enterprise Edition:)
Of course, I do hope that the benefits of a possibility of customization will outweigh the need to pay for it for the company.

Yep, SugarCRM is a good application. If you're feeling adventurous and want something really rigid, have a look at Compiere.

    https://compiere.org

But then it might be an overkill if your company doesnt really needs ERP. On the other hand, IMO, every company should implement ERP. Ok, I dont know what I'm saying.

Just check out the link to see if it really fits your bill.

    Carl,

Thank you very much. As a matter of fact I've been contemplating Compiere as possible solution, but looking at their needs found it to be far too ambitious solution for their needs and requirements as the are in near future. Inventory management and all typicall ERP tools do not seem to be such a big challange for them right now, while sound CRM is.
Especially so if I hear you say rigid.
Thank you again for your valuable opinion.

    Hi Adam,

A more important news bit is that Salesforce.com has also become the open source organization's first member from the hosted applications arena. Salesforce.com is joining as an Add-In Provider member, allowing it to vote on Eclipse matters. Along with the announcement, Salesforce.com also released a free AppExchange Toolkit for Eclipse, based on the Eclipse Web Tools Platform Project.
Secondly salesforce.com is multi-lingual but definitely agree with you that its not adjustable with regional languages but you can add-in the languages if you want..Why dont you go ahead with the free trials of both these crm's.
This should be welcome news for developers building applications using the AppExchange platform. The most important benefit is that this unites the technology of Eclipse and the power of Salesforce.com's Web services, enabling the "mashups", or the linking of two services via the Internet.

Then adam sugar crm haven't got that awesome display which salesforce have.

    waiting for your reply.

    Thanks,
    Ritesh.
