How To Ask For An Email Address

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
What is the best approach to make someone say, "Yes! I would love to give you my email so that you send me a flyer" ?

I have a list of contacts/mailing addresses, and I need to create an email list by calling these companies, letting them know who we are and asking them their email so that I can send them our weekly special.

I know there is a danger of approaching the situation the wrong way, and getting an immediate "No, thanks".

The BEST way to get the e-mail address, in this situation, is to call the contact person and ask them to visit a specific landing page on your website.

The landing page should also direct them to a place where they can register for your weekly specials.

You're trying to create an opt-in newsletter (a great idea) from scratch. Many companies will e-mail the contacts and ask them to opt-in via link or opt-out via a link.

As Randall said, people will be willing to say to you, "I'd be delighted to give you my eMail address" if you offer them value in return. If this is for a newsletter, then the news should be of interest to them, not just SPAM ads. Let them know what to expect for their trust of giving you their eMail address.

Even if you offer a URL and registration, your landing page should concentrate on the benefits to them of registering.

It's all about being of benefit to the customer.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi,

What could be a good trick also if all the above doesn't work:

enrollment via email in a draw for a price, free samples, product,...

    and

you will do all the work for the person as long as they send you a quick mail with their email address or give it to you over the phone.

    Now, all this said,
If you go to their websites and go to the contact us part, normally you will find a couple of email addresses.
Then it comes down to how you use those in order to get to the right person.

    Regards,

    Hi Pink_in_Paris,

the only rule that you have to follow in this situation is the one 80% of the people who are looking to receive something from others avoid but 20% of the people have learned to master.

Even though most people want others to give something to them first (which is so ridiculous...Have you ever seen a corn farmer go to his unplanted field before he drops the seed into the ground and yell..."Hey EARTH GIVE ME SOME CORN!!!"). No you'll never see this happen because they understand that "REAPING" like receiving from others only comes after the "SOWING" or Giving has been done.

I'm so surprised that most businesses are successful but I guess that's why so many businesses fail in the first two to three years. They just don't have anything worth value to offer.

So most people fail to recognize one of the most under used, under estimated Laws of success and it's called...

    THE LAW OF RECIPROCITY...

When we give something of tremendous value first to others the natural knee jerk reaction is for them to give back to us in return.

GIVE SOMETHING OF VALUE AND YOU'LL GET THE EMAIL
So if you're looking for an email address to be returned to you why don't you think of a new way that you can offer them something in return for that email address. Something Free but of tremendous value to your customer. I know this will help you but most people under estimate how it works. And if you're concerned about how it works go talk to a Corn Farmer. Is there anything else I can do for you?

Everyone seems to agree that as long as I highlight the value to the potential customer, it won't be as difficult as I am anticipating.

And thank you Michael, for pointing out an aspect I can't believe I have overlooked- a landing page for people to register for our emails. Then they could further specify which type of info they want: weekly specials, info newsletter, etc. Sounds like a fairly simple way to send info to those who are interested.

I appreciate the feedback, now I'll put it to use.
