E-commerce And Marketing Models

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello all, im currently undertaking a mini-project at work regarding e-commerce within the business to consumer context. I know the internet has changed conventional ways of thinking about marketing models and has given rise to a new way of thinking. What i need is examples of companies from asia and the E.U that new models of marketing have been adopted. Also, i need to analyse how the internet has given rise to these new marketing models.

thanks and warm regards

Have marketing models changed? I wasn't aware that they had! My clients (whether online or offline) still have to ensure that they manufacture, sell or supply a service that their target audience will buy! They still have to market their wares (whether mass market or via a more personalised service!).
Branding is still as important as it ever was, and is still based on the same elements!

The basic models are still the same, strategies and tactics however have changed.

Instead of press ads, we have banner ads
Instead of catalogues we have online stores
Instead of friends view of whats good to buy (or not) we have review sites and price comparison sites.
Instead of saving up marketing budget for a end of year marketing bash we now have Google AdWords!

What Andrew means is that marketing basics didn't change you just have more channels. I don't have any examples of Asian and E.U. companies, but here thoughts on how internet helps marketing:

    -possible cross-geographic reach
    -cheaper client acquisition costs
-ability to reach very targeted layer of consumers
-contextual advertising, which again comes back to targeting
-thanks to blogs, rss, newsletter, it is a permission marketing
-with a right campaign you can implement viral marketing easier on internet

I agree with Andrew that marketing principle that we have to satisfy customer needs didn't change. But I do see a shift in marketing due to consumers being overhelmed with marketing messages everywhere. We are moving more into viral, permission based marketing and internet is helping.

Take DSG (Dixons) as an example of how the internet is changing trading ... they were a bricks and mortar store (as were Currys a sister company).
Dixons though spent a lot of resource and effort in competing online rather than through the store network, the result was great online customer service, poor store experience.

The opposite was true of their sister company (Currys), so now DSG have announced that Dixons will be an online brand only, and Currys (to be renamed Currys.digital) will take over the Dixons store network and pump good customer service back into the offline stores.

    Hi ,

Nice question ! As you know that, Internet marketing is the use of the Internet to advertise and sell goods and services. Its works includes pay per click advertising, banner ads, e-mail marketing, search engine marketing (including search engine optimization), blog marketing, and article marketing.

As I have studied during my MBA that, one third of consumers who have Internet access in their homes report using the Internet to make purchases. So we can say that Internet has changed the way of business. Don’t need to go shop, do it online….so what is the use of stores and marketplace.

The Internet Marketing revolution started in 1990 but the concepts of traditional marketing remain same at market place. Going further to this topic it also catching up the High tech marketing.

    The benefits are as below:

    1. Availability of information – quick and fast.

    2. Consumers can log onto the Internet and learn about products, as well as purchase them, at any hour.

    3. Companies that use Internet marketing can also save money because of a reduced need for a sales force

There are so many business models are came into place to manage the Internet Marketing. The common models are business-to-business and business-to-consumer (B2C)., peer-to-peer (P2P), where individuals exchange goods between themselves.

    • Internet marketing has had a large impact on several industries including music, banking, and flea markets. In the music industry, many consumers have begun buying and downloading MP3s over the Internet instead of simply buying CDs.

    • Internet marketing has also affected the banking industry. More and more banks are offering the ability to perform banking tasks online. Online banking is believed to appeal to customers because it is more convenient then visiting bank branches. Currently, over 50 million U.S. adults now bank online. Online banking is now the fastest-growing Internet activity.

    • As Internet auctions have gained popularity, flea markets are struggling. Unique items that could previously be found at flea markets are being sold on Ebay.com instead. Ebay.com has also affected the prices in the industry. Buyers and sellers often look at prices on the website before going to flea markets and the Ebay.com price often becomes what the item is sold for.

    • More and more flea market sellers are putting their items up for sale online and running their business out of their homes.
