Web Development With Customer Interaction

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Similar to MarketingProfs.com, I am looking to build a password protected site for our customers.

The site will be a customer support site where customers can log cases, view their case history, troubleshoot, etc. Similar to the marketing profs.com website, there will be a section of the website that is customer-specific (e.g., My Open Qs, My Profile) and a section of the website that is static for all customers to see (e.g., topics, white papers).

Currently we are using PeopleSoft, but it is a very limited system for adding content, branding and the static component of the site. So we added a another password-protected site for the static info. Having two password -protected sites is confusing for the customer so we want to integrate them, but our IT group is stumped.

What technology can we use that will incorporate the site-specific information and the static component? A key is that the system will provide the flexibility to add a lot of content, while also providing the dynamic content.

Thanks,
Kristin

    Thanks Henri,

I guess maybe integration might be the wrong word. The two sites are on separate servers, they have completely different look and feels, and it wouldn't be good enought to simply authenticate people back and forth between the two sites.

We want to start from scratch to build a new site on the same server with the features described above. We are on a Windows platform currently. I'm not sure if a standard web developer can offer this.

There is a product called Dot Net Nuke ( also one for PHP) that is a portal software built on Microsoft's Dot Net platform. It is modular and expandable. Take a look at www.Umix.net for an example of what it can do. Because it is modular you it can be deployed fairly quickly and can be more easily updated.

These are the guys that built that site www.apptheory.com

Unfortunately, these answers were a little too technical for me. I accepted the answers that asked more questions because it's clear I need to know more to get a good answer.
