Totally Crazy Idea....think Outside The Box Time!!

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I work for a software company and believe it or not, we have a surplus in budget to spend for this quarter. I have been tasked to think completely out of the box to either pitch the company from an awareness standpoint or utilize a point product pitch.

There is no limit to the imagination and I have about 15-20K to spend.

Some of the ideas I have been kicking around is to create a funny video, or avatar pitching us but it might turn into a resource hog.

Again, sky is the limit and I am hoping one you genius' out there can point me in the right direction. Thank you all in advance.

Naturally, it would help to know more about your software. Is this the Andrew Kordek at Quest?

You could pick five or ten MarketingProfs experts and run a contest - let each of them design and implement their own program - and see who comes out on top.

Or, if you are serious about thinking "outside the box", you could try to find someone who truly has a unique point of view or approach. For example, my personal specialty is "prospect centered marketing". If I had such a budget to spend, I'd set up an excrow account (so you can expense the money this year) and implement a long-term program to identify, penetrate, and sell the primary companies in your target market.

Well- for awareness: build on your brand- organization brand. Sponsor a industry-thought-leader-seminar and have clients, competitors and media jostling for passes. Get great PR and TV coverage.

Else, check among your sub brands- find out the ones which have potential to do better and have never been at the receiving end of the mktg dollar and invest in them.

Call your product mgmt resources and ask them today if they had a windfall budget what would they spend it on? You will get better bang-for-the-buck answers internally.

Since we have no idea what software you sell it is difficult to come up with ideas. That being said I would spend the money on current clients. Find a way to use the money to get them to suggest you to other firms.

One interesting approach, used by an associate of mine, is to send clients a digital picture frame that plays stills and video. Have a good message (video) already on the frame and then tell them you will, from time to time, send them messages of importance. They can put pictures of their family on the frame and use it in the office.

Of course, if you have thousands of clients this won't work, but I say spend it on existing clients.
