Mba Level Program Field Trip In Los Angeles

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am an instructor at a Los Angeles College. This Fall I will be teaching an MBA level marketing course titled MARKETING MANAGEMENT & E-COMMERCE. The description of the course is as follows: "This course provides an in-depth view of marketing principles and functions in the 21st century economy.Topics covered include market segmentation, targeting, positioning, pricing, distribution, and new product development. Emphasis is placed on applying these concepts to the e-commerce framework. At completion of the course, students should be able to organize the marketing function and develop a marketing plan." The course requires a 4-6 hour field trip, on a Saturday, which will take place some time in mid to late October. My question is, can anyone recommend an activity or an event, e.g., workshop, seminar, tour, as a field trip for this course?

I understand the planned outcome of the course.

But what is the objective of the field trip?

Simply to reinforce much of, or the whole of, the course content?

Or to highlight some specific aspect of the course?

If you have any alumni working in the entertainment industry, you might see if they can set up a session with some key managers at one of the large companies in that industry. It's the only industry I can think of that's large/global and serious about new products and marketing, and that's largely centered in the Los Angeles area.

In addition to the major studios, there are record companies, television production companies, etc. who have a major presence in Southern California. If you can get one to cooperate, the students can ask about the impact of the Internet on their business and how they have responded to any possible challenge or threat.
