Putting My Dissertation Idea Into A Question

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I am currently going into my 3rd and final year of fashion marketing and need to choose my dissertation question before i go back to University, the problem is i don't know how to phrase the question and if my topic has enough to write about, i was thinking of something to do with slave labour in highstreet stores and is it right that just becuase its not illegal for these people to work all hours for no money that big bosses like Sir Phillip Green exploit them. obliviously my question has to be fashion and marketing orrientated please could yuo give me a few ideas of how i could A phrase a question on the topic and how to start gathering research on it, many thanks Sara

    Hi Sara...

You sound as though you're approaching this from an emotive position with phrases like "slave labour" and "bosses... exploiting them".

Why not approach the same subject from a real marketing point-of-view e.g. along the lines of "the effect on customer service of employing cheap untrained reatil shop assistants". After all, these retail staff are the "people" P of the 7P's if you back to your marketing theory!

I'll stop there - otherwise, this could easily get me started on one of my pet subjects - the lack of service in UK retailers!!

    Good luck with the dissertation,

    Hi Sara,

I agree with Bob, be objective. Just straight for the aim of your thesis "examining......impact.....on.....blah blah....". Actually, if you do a search around for thesis/research titles. You will realise they are pretty straight forward :P.

The reason I know is that if you are dodgy with the titles, it'll make it hard for academics to do research. They hope for objective, straight forward titles. So don't worry too much about sounding sexy :P. The more objective the better !!

    Hope that helps!
