Need Help With A Drip Survey

Posted by jcavedo on 250 Points
I am thinking about trying a drip survey (similar to drip marketing but asking questions) to begin a dialog with consumers who visit site via email click through. I am struggling with thinking through interesting ways to ask questions that really get people to want to interact and "stay tuned." Has anybody done anything similar to this, what were the results. What were the questions

Did these people opt in for some sort of communication from you?

I'm just trying to figure out how close they are to your site and what's the incentive for them to participate.

What are you trying to learn from surveys?

How about a blog and then an email to your list saying there's a new posting on "this" topic, and everyone who contributes a meaningful reply to the thread will be entered to win something...just thinking of ways to get people to ping you back.

Yes, these are existing customers or subscribers. I am trying to get insight into what other "events" they would be interested in attending at our venues. I don't want to bombard our customers with a survey so I was hoping to do it more through a drip survey or a poll but I have to imagine to get full answers it requires more than 1 question.

Are you trying to find things out in general or drilled-down by reader?

Instead of asking for a survey response, work passively. Write an article with embedded links to the various things you're thinking of offering, and track the click-thrus. People will naturally click to find out more information on what interests them.

    Dear Jim,

In my opinion a drip survey would not be as effective as its marketing counterpart. What you are thinking of doing is to break up a single survey into smaller parts and present them to your target audience bit by bit. According to me, this would not be such a good idea because a survey is something that is much more integrated. A lot of questions would have inter dependencies and as such would not be applicable to dripping per se.

For your specific situation, I would like to elaborate on Jay's excellent idea of a passive approach. Perhaps you could have a coming soon section on your site with links to the various "events" you see as having potential and then track the click thru's on those links. This would give you a much better answer than any survey!

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,
