Any Way To Test List For Valid Email Addresses?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We have an in-house list of 150,000+ email addresses that we now want to share with another company. Since we've never sent anything out to these addresses, I'm not sure how many are valid. Is there any way to test this list (software, service, etc.) before we provide it to the next company?

    Ok.....
How can you determine the value of the list if you've never used it? I'm just curious.

Also wondering why you haven't used your inhouse list for any e-mail campaigns?

What's a better way to "test" than to do a campaign.

World Cast email software has an email validator. Here's the company that sells it. https://www.fairlogic.com/

Um, what do you mean by "share with another company?"

Yeah, the first thing I thought of was the term 'share'. If these people on the list have opted in and chosen to recieve messages from partners, that's one thing. However, giving someone a list to just mail to is a big no-no.

Since you've never mailed to them, the potential of disaster for what you're thinking of is very high.

Since you've never mailed to this list, it is likely that many will have forgotten ever agreeing to get any email from you (how obvious were the terms and conditions?). So the first email is going to come as a big shock. Especially if they've had no prior dealings with your partner.

The recipients won't care if it's Can-Spam compliant. Only lawyers and the FTC use that as their definition of spam.

Without knowing more details, it looks like the first email will generate a great swathe of spam complaints, which might lead to blacklisting, and other unpleasant consequences.

How long ago did people submit these emails? If it's anything more than a few weeks/months, then any permission you may have got is essentially redundant.

You may have worked out these issues already, but I thought it might be helpful to highlight the dangers.

For about 35.00 you can buy software that will check the list for you. You can then delete the bad email and use a clean list.

    Find the software here: https://www.maxprog.com/EmailVerifier.html

Oh, simple solution to the domain name black list. Register a new one like: Yourproductnameonline.com and send. This way your REALNAME.com is still off the bad list. Domain names are fairly cheap, 20 bucks or less.

Looks like your question has been answered mostly but in case you're still looking for more feedback:

*Many database merge/purge companies have the abilitiy to validate e-mails addresses (similar to what direct mail marketers do with postal address validation) and the cost is usually fairly cheap (they charge a base price per thousand records validated).

*To avoid too many spam e-mail compalints, you and your partner company could segment out the e-mail addresses based on date range of e-mail addresses gathered and then see which ones response better, OR

*You could only send the campaign to 0-3 month segment (those people that provided their e-mail within the last three months).

    Hope this helps.
