How To Find A Good Online Account Manager/parttime

Posted by Alphadelta on 250 Points
I would appreciate any advice on locating an online marketing person to manage our web site and email marketing.

I need somebody to market and develop a new web site that we are developing and ideally I am looking for a virtual marketing assistant to do the job as opposed to having somebody on my premises.

I would prefer to pay via a retainer basis and the job position will be a max of 2/3 days per week.

Does anybody know of suitable web sites where you can locate these types of people on such a basis? I am familiar with elance but this site is more tasks specific and lacks appropriate marketing skill base.

Purely exploring this issue and would like any advice at all in going down this route.

Is there a good web site for reviewing this type of skill?

Thanks

There are a number of web sites similar to Elance, unfortunately they are task oriented and I have found that most of the professionals there have a tendency to outsource their bids and focus on being awarded additional contracts. So the lack of quality does diminish. What's worse? These individuals may have difficult developing a consistent base of work forcing them to seek full-time work and everything they have worked on may not be possible for another individual to simply pick up where the other left off causing you possible delays. My only recommendation is to find a company that provides all the services that you would require in-house.

Most Internet Marketing and Web Development companies offer scheduled maintenance plans that ensure your needs are met when you need them. There are a multitude of benefits to contracting with a company opposed to a single individual. Here is my opinion:

    1) You gain an entire team to depend on.
    2) Seasoned companies usually institute standardized process and technologies that can easily be deciphered by another company providing similar practices.
    3) Experience with multiple companies, will also help you avoid the many pitfalls and save you time and money
    4) As you grow so will your needs and if you build a comfortable relationship with your provider, they should be able to anticipate your needs and help any of your transitions be as transparent as necessary

I could go on, but which ever route you decide to take, I would suggest, if you haven't already, prepare a list of priorities for the project and a separate your wish list. Convey this to your selected company or professional of choice from the onset to avoid any misinterpretations. Second, I would request a cost estimate and timeline for each project. It is typical for companies to provide a statement of work(SOW) which is similar to a proposal but outlines the terms and conditions of the entire project and possible guarantee in writing.

Hope this information helps, but if you are adamant about hiring a part time individual I would start with sites like this, craigslist, getafreelancer.com amongst others.
