Click Through On Video Clips

Posted by jlacroix on 500 Points
Does anyone know what an industry standard or benchmark is for clicks on video clips? We are thinking about moving some of our marketing budgets to more video streaming clips. We would use the video clips for testimonials, product demo's and service explanations.

I have just received our clicks on a testimontial video clip we did and wondered if it was good. But without knowing some benchmark statistics it was hard to know.

Any data you can provide would be helpful. Thank you

Please clarify you first statement regarding the clicks.

    Clicking on what exactly please?

On a text link on a web site that says 'watch the video'
On an image on a web site to 'watch the video'

On either of these 2 inside an email message?

On the video itself or next activity link after having watched it?
    ---------

As a general note form my experience, we are getting much higher CTR in our promotions when we include video. When i Say much higher it can be as much as 300% higher. However, CTR by itself is not necessarily good. users will always be happy to be entertained by watching a video but does this convert into sales?

It all depends upon your goal with your messages.

Are you trying to Sell more product or services?
Generate more page displays to generate ad revenue?
Entertain your audience to keep them loyal?
Educate your customers to keep them loyal and teach them about your features and benefits?

Don't just put video in because it is the trend. Make sure that your goals for each video are clearly defined.

In general I would say that our overall feeling so far with early experiments with video are good but that once users get used to seeing video everywhere, then its effectiveness will drop off and it will be back to the same old metrics as previously.

Be sure that your video is relevant and doesn't just distract from your goal.

    Good luck
