How Else Can I Get The Word Out? Errand Service ~

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I just started an Errand Service, and have yet to have my first client.
I'm trying not to get discouraged, and I'm hoping for that first contact very soon.
I did order 200 postcards that will be mailed to various businesses and residences, so I hope that will help.

How else can I advertise this type of business?
I've posted flyers on a few community bulletin boards as well.

I really want this to work!
Any advice?

Thank you :)

What are the services that you offer exactly?
Do you have them listed on your postcards?
Are your prices competitive with other errand services in the area?
    Do you have a website?

This sounds like a service that would be successful in a big city like NYC, CHI, or just a highly affluent area.

The best way to promote such a company would be through a website opposed to direct mail. Most direct mail is thrown out as junk mail. It also can be costly to print up cards and postage.

Don't mail....deliver. When you leave say: "Is there something I can do for your RIGHT NOW?"

Have you considered spending a certain part of your day on sales?

Presumably you have a target market and some clients who could be references. Spend some time each day calling.

Also, always ask your current clients for referrals. Referrals are often the key to growing a business.

You have been doing a great job for a client for a while so you ask for a few referrals and then call them. Maybe some clients would even be willing to take action to recommend you. There is no harm in asking for help. If you do a really, really good job for someone they will WANT to help you.

I would like to see some specifics that would make me think 'oh, I can relate to that!'
They might be in the form of stories, in the first person, like:
" I was throwing a party and boy was I in trouble. First I had an emergency at work, and then .... I needed to go to the liquor store, grocery, ..... and my first guest was going to arrive in just 2 hours...."
Give potential customers the aha - and then maybe a fridge magnet with HELP in big letters, or a cartoon that shows someone juggling pots, food, dry cleaning.... you fill in the rest.
