Number Of Users In A Subject Line

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I want to include the number of users our product has in the subject line. Will this mean that my email is in danger of not getting through spam filters?

What about using the word "leading" in the subject line?

    Acorry,
Here's a great site about emailing and subject lines - and how to avoid spamming filters:
    https://www.internetbasedmoms.com/ezine-publishing/avoid_spam_filters.html

It includes a list of many words not to use.

I've not seen it where numbers appear to to be 'spammable"
    Best Regards,

I think you're fine on both counts, regarding spam filters. And it sounds like putting in the users might be quite compelling, though I have of course no idea of your product(s) or audience. Would you post a sample of what you mean? Then we could offer more specific feedback, if you wish. Not for spam issues, but for efficacy.

Of course, always remember to test your subject lines, and (as a rule, though you could test this best practice for your market as well) keep them shorter than 55 characters. Shorter subject lines almost always work better.

Also, studies show that readers will pay attention to the three left-most words primarily, and if are not engaged by then, will not read the rest of the line. So that's where you want the most compelling words or phrase.

    Good luck.

So, what is the real subject line?

You really have to be careful about subject lines.....not for spam reason, but for brand reasons.

You can also set up a yahoo account and test it if you want.

You might also run your email by a spam checker: https://spamcheck.sitesell.com/

There are no guarantees, since each spam filter application has its own rules.

Any reason why we can't read the actual line you're going to use?

Leading solution available to 10,000 users

The problem I see with this subject line is that 'available' combined with a certain number is not the same as saying 10,000 users. It actually takes away from the number.

Based on your example, be direct! Tell the people what the 10,000 users are doing/ gaining/ etc. by using your product.

Using the number should be OK (and use an exact number, such as 10,238). The real question is what benefit are those 10,000+ people getting from your product?

Leading solution is way too vague. It doesn't mean anything.

If you said "How 10,238 companies grew sales by 32% in three months" that would get attention and promise a benefit.

For what it's worth, some email service providers -- I use ExactTarget -- offer a "content checker" that allows you to run your entire e-mail (subject included) through a list of words that set of spam filters.
