Mba Versus Ms Integrated Marketing Communications

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I am undecided whether to go for my MBA from Texas A&M University Commerce or my MS in Integrated Marketing Communications from Eastern Michigan University. I am geared towards marketing but undecided which degree will be more valuable in terms of compensation at this time in the job market. The MBA curriculum from Texas A & M seems to be more geared towards finance and then gets into some basic marketing classes, whereas the Eastern Michigan Program goes more in-depth with brand Marketing..etc..a lot more training in marketing. Do you think a potential employer might be looking for an MBA or lean towrds someone with more marketing education? All suggestions/opinions appreciated!!!

According to some articles I've read the MBA is valuable IF you are extremely interested in business and only business. One article says that schools are churning out MBA but the demand has stayed constant - think of how many extra attorneys are out there without jobs - too many churned out through the system and nowhere to go.

As a director I'd hire someone with a Masters in Marketing over an MBA. I'd like the extra marketing training it would bring.

You need to decide where your passion is - business or marketing because if you go to work to just make the most money - it's just work. If you go to work because you love what you are doing, the days are enjoyable and you look forward to going into the office.

Money is important, but so is enjoying what you do.
    Okay off my soapbox now.

    Best regards.

I suggest you check out the Texas A&M Industrial Distribution Program. A Masters Degree in that program would put you in big demand....

This is precisely what I was also looking for.

while I am clear about MS Marketing in MBA vs MS Marketing, I am not sure which university offers the best focus for marketing.

Medill IMC mentioned here is new to me, so is Eastern Michigan University. I have been thinking abt Texas A&M, NYU, Rochester etc. I want to be sure about the brand of university for MS Marketing. For the same brand reasons, I didnt take my MBA offers from purdue, smeal and boston college. I was once waitlisted in duke & tuck as well. I want to do my MBA at a later stage in ivy'z.

Please help me if you know any universities which offers the best MS program in Marketing.
