What Are The Core Competencies Of Service Office?

Posted by sophia_lo702 on 250 Points
Dear Professionals,

I'm currently pusuring my master studies. My dessertation topic is "what are the core competencies of service office industry in the UK? "

I'm still not quite sure about this topic in terms of the servcie office industry, cas very little research has been conducted on this particular industry. Where I could find more information?

Since I have done lots of primary research about users' perception towards different office service providers such as Regus, MWB. Also, I've conducted a couple of interviews with service providers like eOffice, Regus, MWB, Citibase, etc to get a more comprehensive idea on the market as a whole. I would like to keep this topic into this "core competency" theory, but How could I improve on this topic to make it sounds more like a proper dessertation?

Thank you
sophia

    Hello Sophia -
The Serviced office Industry is a tough one to put your hands around. But it is getting better known every day, thanks in part to the World Wide penetration of REGUS, the UK penetration of Avanta, MWB, Service Office Group and other Providers and also recently by James work with Choregus.

The fastest way to find the info is:
    1) visit the sites of the names mentioned above - in the "marketing information / talk" you will pretty much find what Serviced Offices are all about. -- it is not brain science :-)
    a) Products offered are - Full Time Offices / Virtual Offices / Meeting Rooms & Services
    b) Advantages of Service offices are - Flexibility / Speed / and cost savings. **
    c) Competition to Service office Conventional Leases / Sub-Leases / lack of understanding the "true cost of an office-WorkStation"**

** If you want to really attack the biggest issue facing Services Office Sector - it is the issue that Service Offices "look" more expensive up front ---- but if you are honest and realistic ---- they ARE actually more cost effective then conventional lease.

    2) Choregus - sums it up very well. A good source

    3) You might want to visit : Business Centre Association / www.bca.uk.com / for some statistics.

If you want more information - please feel free to ask.

Thank you very much, James and Phill, I've had a better idea on the service office industry from the links and information you've shared. I'm now struggling with the literature review. I'm looking for a more academic guide. I've read some articles about the history of competitive advantage, and core competencies. But i can't find lots of information in terms of service office and conference and meeting industry. More importantly, how I should structure a 5000 words literature review to make it more logical and sensible.
