Create A Tagline For Internet Marketing Institute

Posted by PPC Summit on 250 Points
Hey Guys,

This is my very first question here. I signed up as a member last year and have really enjoyed reading all your comments/suggestions.

I need you to put on your marketing hats and give me feedback as many of you are part of our target demographic.

We are starting a new site full of online tutorials for marketers at InternetMarketingInstitute.com (site currently in development, not online).

The site will provide online tutorials, online training courses, a marketing certificate program, marketing tools reviews, etc.

What do you think is an appropriate tagline? We currently have "We Train Internet Marketers" which was suggested by one of our customers and we'd love your help in figuring out a new one.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mary

Let's start by defining your target audience more precisely. Exactly who are they, where do they live, what are their most important unmet needs, what are they doing now, how do they express their attitudes, who do they think does the same thing you're planning to do, etc.?

Then consider what it is you want to communicate to them. What makes your offering better than your competitors' offerings? What's the most important benefit (as expressed by your prime target audience)? Why should they buy from you? What is your value proposition?

Then think about how and where you expect them to learn about your site? What's the context?

Then, finally, see if you can articulate how you'll know if/when you have a winning tagline. What are the criteria? How will you know if your tagline is communicating what you intend? If you can't do that, then any tagline -- including the one you already have -- is probably just fine.

Hope this helps. If this is really an important issue for you, you might consider paying a small fee for specialized help at the 911 Marketing Help Tagline Factory. Simply go to the 911 Marketing Help website and click on "Tagline Factory" at the bottom of the screen.

"We Train Internet Marketers" repeats your company's name, which isn't a good use of a tagline. The tagline needs to clearly identify some key benefits you provide, for example:

    Learn The Latest Online Techniques
    We Teach Online Best Practices
    Learn From Our Internet Experts

I would look at the tagline development as if it were a "keyword phrase" development project.

First, think of all the key word phrases you might use if you were trying to find "you" (even though you're not on the web yet).

So, google "Internet Marketing tutorials" and other phrases. Then click on these sites, click on "view" > "page source" and read the keyword phrases they are using.

When you finish this exercise, you will understand the competitive environment of your keyword/tagline options and be in a better position to make a selection.

    Steve
