Seeking To Develop Name For Coconut Rum

The coconut rum segment appeals to a young demo (bulls eye 23 years) with female skew....likely to have tertiary education and a facebook account, an mp3 player and a credit card....they tend to mix coconut rum with pineapple juice......some popular brands include Parrot Bay and Malibu...some brands include 'coconut rum\ as part of their name and some don't

    I suggest a name that stays away from those of the competitors or else you will appear to be a cheap knock off. The demographic you are targeting does not want to be seen drinking Admiral Nelson when the rest of the world is swigging Captain Morgan...

    Dennis, how are you going to select the name? You have several here that sound right for your demographic target, but there is no indication of what the criteria are for picking the winner.

    Are you planning to conduct some research among your prime target audience? They're really the ones who have to love the name, and I suspect that none of those who have submitted ideas are in your prime target audience.

    We recently had a naming project and when we tested the names with our target audience we got a major surprise: our least favorite name was the big winner! The client went with it, and it looks like the research was right on.

    Net: It's fun to think about all the creative possibilities, but if your goal is to make money by selling a lot of product to a narrow target audience, it's really important to find out what THEY think and how they react in a statistically accurate and projectable test.
