What To Do With Degrees In Marketing, Psychology

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I am a stay-at-home mom who is looking to return to the workforce. Prior to staying at home I worked for 20 years for a travel company as an eCommerce/Interactive project director. I have a BS in Marketing, an MA in Applied Psychology and am a certified Life Coach. I really don't want to go back into what I was doing before and am interested in pursuing something else. My question is this: where in the field of marketing would my degrees (marketing/psychology/coaching) and my work experience be considered assets? Would it be possible for me to get a position as a marketing project manager/director? I am also considering marketing research as an option. I would appreciate any thoughts you might have.

Why would you not just build your own business.....

Ditto to Frank's suggestion. Unless money is an immediate issue, I would start my own business. With blogging, easy to create web sites, forums like these etc, it's easier than ever to showcase your expertise.

With a background like yours I think you're probably more suited to strategy consulting instead of actually performing the work. (You get paid more for that anyway, so that's not all bad.) You just need to spend some time thinking about what your areas of expertise are.

I'd also recommend viewing a webinar in the MarketingProfs library - What You Need To Know About Becoming (or Hiring) a Marketing Consultant. Lots of good thoughts in there on how to price your services.

There are also lots of good articles and webinars on the site on how to raise your brand awareness on the net.

    All the best!

Consumer Behavior and Marketing Research type positions would call upon your background well.

With those qulifications its good to start your own , go it to a market segment that need your services, like cleaning companies, then link with website develpers, trainers, etc. then you grow from there
