Responsibilities Of An E-business Manager

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi all,

I am about to be interviewed (in next 3 days) for the position of E-business Manager for the regional office of a large mutinational brand.

Though I have ample experience in the off line marketing and some in online marketing, I cant decide on the points that would really matter to such an organization:

1. They are not into SEM or SEO as their brand is very well known and SEO and PPC would be policy matters to be done by the head office.

2. same goes for any website design and enhancements (they have a standard design for all their websites with regional elements)

I am no programmer. I have done online marketing but it puzzles me how to put this knowledge to be attractive to these guys?

Plus how should I prepare for this interview?

Online or off-line, to be a successful you have to know the basics of marketing. The principles are the same, what is different is the medium and how you communicate with your audience.

So when asked about how you would approach Scenario X, start with your off-line experience (Understand audience needs, what motivates them, etc) and then transition to the things that make online marketing different.

You can further highlight your online knowledge by comparing off-line to online. "In off-line I'd do this, but online my approach would be...".

What about blogging or other tools for customer engagement? Does the company allow regional offices to do this? If yes, talk about how you'd harness this, if they don't ask them why and explain the benefits.

I hope this helps, and best of luck!

Do you have experience in such things are project management?

Can you come up with the strategy and tactics and coordinate the talent to get it done? More importantly, have you done so?

Think through specific things you have accomplished in the are of e-business. You do not have to be a programmer, etc., to manage this kind of thing.

I would reread any job description or job posting for this, as your question would often be answered in some part there.

Do you know anyone at the office that you can ask? Maybe see if you can find someone who can connect you to an employee there, and ask.

Check the company out and see what they are doing that looks like e-business. Anything on their web site? If not, maybe call up this office's line and talk to sales and ask if it is possible to purchase the products online.

I do agree with what the others said - at the base of it, marketing is marketing, whether it is done online or off. Some of the specifics change, but it is more alike than different.

I'm sure that the question is not so much about what you have done that what you can do for the company.

When i'm looking for new employees, I listen in the first place to their ideas. An applicant with no experience can have great ideas and be more useful than a 5-year experienced applicant.

Tell yourself: what can I do for this company, and try to explain it in a way that a child could get.
