We just started out online t-shirt business [inactive link removed] & would like to create some solid back links to it. What is the best and quickest way to do this?

I think what you are talking about is "inbound links" to your websites, not reciprocal or backlinks where you link to a website and they link back to you. Here is an article about Linkbuilding for Internet Marketing that you might find useful.

You can also use a tool like www.WebsiteGrader.com to check your links and get other useful info.

The quickest way to get backlinks is to produce great content useful for customers. They'll link your site by themselves

I agree with mvolpe that you likely mean inbound links. I don't think that reciprocal links are the way to go in this case (or really any case for that matter IMHO).

Yes, you have to make good content as jmorandie said above, but that can take a long time and doesn't guarantee anything.

I think something more proactive IN ADDITION to the quality content is necessary. Go to sites (particularly blogs) where your audience also is likely to visit and participate in the discussion or talk directly to the site admin and see if they'd be willing to help. If your site provides value to their visitors, then they might help you out. This takes a lot of legwork and time and there is no shortcut.

A first question, before all of this though, is why? Why do you want "backlinks?" Is it to help your organic search results, page rank, or traffic in general? Is it to get referrals from specific sites, create a network of partners, or increase your brand awareness? Doing all this work on linking may not be necessary depending on what you are trying to accomplish.
