Email Newsletter Created In Quarkx Or Indesign

After creating a newsletter in Quark Xpress or Indesign, can I email it out without it becoming an attachment?

    If you convert it to plain text, Rich Text or HTML, you can. Otherwise, no.

    I believe you need to create a pdf and attach it. Alternatively you can create an html email that has a nice link and have users click on a link of your pdf to get more info. Sometimes this is better than attaching as some email programs will mark emails from unknown senders with attachements as spam.

    These tools are not the best if you really want to send your newsletter in the email body. You will need to create an html page in GoLive or Dreamweaver (or however you create webpages). Be sure that host your images on a webserver and use their complete URL in the page so that you do hot have to attach the images to your email and the email reader can grab them from the internet. When creating html emails sometimes simpler is better. Too many design elements and images increase the likelyhood of it not making it through spam filters (unless your address is whitelisted by your receipients.

    You probably need to convert your design to HTML. I believe you can do that from InDesign. If not, you'll have to go to an HTML program (like Dreamweaver, for example).

    Of course, if it's just straight text, you can cut/paste the text from InDesign or QuarkExpress.

    If you're using an ESP for the mailing, almost all of them have tools that can help you with the process. No extra cost, in my experience.

    Yes, if you have InDesign CS3 and Dreamweaver CS3 for example you can import your InDesign layout into Dreamweaver. However, the html usually generated uses a lot of styles that would not be recognized by most email browsers and your layout may not render well.

    You have a couple of options if you really want to use an InDesign layout... One is to come up with your concept in InDesign and then hand it off to someone who can translate your idea into an html format better optimized for sending out email campaigns.

    Or you can go the route Borders has gone (as an example). They send out very image heavy emails. Their email is composed of several images which are clickable. I would not be surprised if they use a tool such as Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign to design the email blast and then just cut up the larger layout into subsections.     I would personally spend the time to set up a nice optimized html email template if you plan to send out emails frequently.

    Also, if you plan to send out image heavy emails, include a link at the top for readers to read the email using their web browser as some may not be able to receive or view your message properly.

    You can convert to HTML and then pull it into the inline editor of your Email Service Provider (ESP) to convert into an attractive email.

    If you have a Web editor, like Dreamweaver, you might even want to fix it up a bit before making it an email...
