I'm currently working in economic consulting, which involves doing research and economic analysis to develop case arguments for companies involved in commercial litigation matters. I already have a Masters in economics and have a strong background in research and quantitative analysis, but would like to switch into a career in marketing and strategic planning because these are the areas that interest me more so than finance in the cases that I've worked on. I also really want to be involved in creating/promoting a product that I believe in and use my analytical skills while doing so.
Given these interests, I really think brand management in retail/consumer packaged goods would be a good career switch. I'm currently planning on applying to top 20 MBA programs to do so, but would like to know if there are any benefits to pursuing a more specialized marketing oriented masters degree instead, and where you recommend I look for these.
Also, among the top MBA programs, which do you think have a good reputation or focus in marketing / brand management? I have heard of Northwestern being very good in marketing, and based on my research think that NYU and Wharton may be good as well.
I'd appreciate any advice or insight you may offer on the best ways to acquire the necessary skill set in order to switch into brand management.
Thanks in advance.
