Blog Press Release Question

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi, our company's blog went live in May but we didn't put a press release out at the time. Now there's a few pages of posts on it, and some updated links. Do you think it's too late (September) to put a press release out about the launch? I was thinking the press release may get picked up by a few relevant industry sites out there, and may get us some additional blog subscribers, but didn't know if the time disparity between the first post and the press release date would diminish it's relevance. Thanks!

I think you should go ahead and do the press release. It's almost better to do a big announcement a few months in because when readers go check out your blog there will be plenty of information.

If you are really bothered by the time between the first post and the press release, you can use language like "blog completes beta release and goes live".

    do the press release....
there are plenty of things to celebrate.. further, if you can get some part of the blog cross listed or published on an industry site... that too will drive traffic.

I agree with sfowler and Frank. Do the press release.

I agree with sflower that it is better to wait a little while anyways. It is discouraging to come to a blog that has only a few entries anyways.

You can also submit your blog to things like digg.com, technocrati.com, and delicious.com. Better yet, if you have a network of contacts ask them if they could all submit it on the same day. This will help drive a little traffic and possibly get some incoming links.

Another thing I would do is invite some people to comment on your blog. This encourages others to do so and establishes more buy in.

    Hope this helps,

    JLL,

Do a press release but make it stand out - make it a great press release that gets people talking! On the other hand, if it's not going to get the attention it deserves, don't waste your time.

Also, you have an opportunity to be authentic (with a slight spin) by saying that you guys have been super busy with XY&Z and have been spending every last drop of your resources on a great blog designed to get valuable, actionable information into our customer's hands.

    Hope this helps.
