I'm unsure of whether you're asking about the name of your company, or your title under a different company name. But, in short, yes, it does matter what you call yourself--that's often how people determine whether you provide the services that match their needs. I'm not sure what a "Business Development Executive" is and I know I wouldn't be Goggling for one unless I was looking for someone to help grow my business. Based upon the info you gave, you don't want to market yourself as an Event Marketing Manager unless you want companies calling you about galas, receptions, etc. I am one of those who believe that you should call yourself what you are, whether in title or business name. If conferences and training is what you do, then I would incorporate that into the business name and your title.

Does it make a difference to who?

Within your company there may be specific names to connote levels of responsibility or seniority.

Outside of your company, certain titles indicate upper/management roles. For example, manager, senior manager, vice president, president, etc. If you'll be meeting with executives from other companies, having a title that's "equal to" theirs brings a certain level of trust.

Yes title makes a difference. Not for internal people, but rather for the outward facing world.

Clients feel much more comfortable speaking to an Account Executive rather than a salesman. Customers are more flattered when the VP of Marketing asks for their feedback than when a market analyst calls.

But here is a caveat; give yourself a strong tithes and you better be prepared to play the part. Nothing is worse than seeing a VP act like a fool.

Thanks a lot for the response Mates, Well i must say this really helped me in solving my doubt, as Frank Hurtte says it right that clients really feel conformable in speaking when they come to know that they are speaking to Account Executive rather then any sales man..

I totally agree with Mr. Jay also as designation gives in a bit of trust to your following clients, this is particularly true as i had once faced out a problem once in my company.

Well i would really be thankful to all you ppl for response. However i am a bit confuess too as in my company where i am working has given designation as Business Development Executive and i want it as conference producer or event marketing Manager, so how should i change it, as in my company they are not having any such kind of designation and when i told them about this they too aren't agreeing, so do u,ll sugesst me to search a job designated as "MY PREFFERED TITLE'. or ? please do help
