Marketing And Pm?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Difference between Marketing career and Project Manager in Marketing. I am thinking about getting a certification in Project management however, I am not sure if I should obtain the certification. I like to work on projects however, I am more interested in creating a project than managing the project. Please advice.

Other areas of interest are International Business and Consulting. Please advice what career path is right. Thank you

If you like the creative side of marketing sticking with just marketing should be fine; in a cover letter, you should be able to discuss your PM skills. This is a rare combination--market it.

I considered getting PMI certified and I thought at the time (6 yrs ago) that it seemed more relevant to give IT people more distinction. Plus there is some legwork that goes with certification that I wasn't ready to do at the time.

Is this your first professional position?

If so you may be better off trying to work on projects rather than create or manage them.

    Good luck!

Project management is a skill that is pretty much required to have within most functional areas of marketing. The majority of what marketing does is broken down into separate projects. Getting a certificate in project management would be useful.

Project management is a generic term for running a whole project through its life cycle. I think you will find that project management is not just administrating, but does involve a lot of creating.
