High School Internship Tips?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
hello,
I'm a junior in highschool and have a career plan foucused on marketing. I recently was at a job fair and met a woman who works for a company in Chicago. She noticed my passion to suceed and offered me an internship over the summer. I know this may be the wrong place to ask this but could you please give me some tips of pointers on what I would be looking forward to. Or what I should expect to be shadowing?

Thanks,
Casey

Ask the woman who offered you the internship these same questions. She knows you're passionate, but not experienced. Be prepared to tell her what promotions that her company is doing excite you (and why) (do your homework before contacting her).

    Hi Casey,

It really depends upon the person to whom you'll report. When I ran global branding for GE, I brought in a senior as part of our local high school career development program. I pre-planned three specific projects that had impact on the brand work we were doing in my department. It gave her real-life experience and benefited our team as well. I would start the conversation now with the manager you'll be working with to see if she would be willing to identify a few projects for you as the summer draws closer. Your enthusiasm could be effectively directed into meaningful work and it would enrich your learning while with the company.

All the best to you, Casey!

    Tim
