Need Tackful Phrasing

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
First here is a little history: My husband accepted a position in our current city and in 5 weeks we moved. I was a Director and took a Coordinator position here, which I am VERY happy with. It pays very well and I have nothing to complain about. We've been in our city for one year and have adjusted very well. I am now ready to take my career to where it was before I moved. Here is my question to you...

I found a position and am applying for it. However, I want the company to be sensitive to my current position as I do not want word to get out unless I am in top running. How do I phrase this when submitting my resume for the position? I have nothing to hide and know my current employer will give me a rave reference when it come time to call references. I do not want to cause friction or create an uncomfortable situation for me if I am not in top running for the position. I need a tactful way to phrase this and not come across to the new company that I have something to hide. It's a smaller community and news can spread fast!

Thanks for your assistance.

Realize that a confidential request cuts both ways: it protects you, but it also tells a prospective employer that you may also leave them "on the sly" (if you're employed by them). If you're in a smaller community, the news may get out anyway.

Simply state, "As I'm currently employed by XXX, please conduct a confidential job search."

There is no such thing as a confidential application. Word will get back to your employer. I would speak to my immediate supervisor to provide yourself with a level of protection.

    "I appreciate your confidentiality"

Period. If it gets out, you know you didn't want to work there anyway and you can call it a "trial balloon"
