Marketing Or Sales??

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'm the senior in industrial engineering but i'm planning to have career in sales but i have some doubts about sales such as sales will affect my analitical thinking ability and my creativity negatively. So maybe i should have a career in marketing. As you see i'm confused can you help me? Especially who work in sales, marketing or both.

Don't take offense but few engineers I know are "creative". Analytical, yes. If you are doing engineering sales you will be closing deals with the top engineer in the company....if that's what you want.

If you do marketing, then you're dealing with dopes like me.

Marketing or sales? Both need analytical skills and creativity. To be a true sales person, you need a lot of marketing thinking. To be a true marketeer, you need a lot of sales thinking. The real difference is in the daily execution of your job.

The question you need to ask yourself should be more along the lines of: do I like face-to-face/1-to-1 engagements or do I like 1-to-many engagements.

We have never met, and so it is hard for me to guess what you may be best at.

I would suggest the following. Sit down with a pen and a piece of paper and make a list of those things you have done in your life for which you have received recognition and awards. Tried to focus on making a list of those things where other people or organizations have been very appreciative of your efforts and results.

This list may be helpful in determining where your two talents lie and in pointing you in a direction where you can provide the best service to others.

    Good luck to you.
