I experienced this stage personally.

I think firstly u have to narrow ur search and decide what all companies r there where u be an assets in respect of ur desired profile.

for example fo rmarketing is marketing research or branding promotions or advertising etc companies be ur area of choice.

I guess u even have to undergo some summer project which should me helpful for the comapny and may give u an opportunity to get an Pre placement.

In short .shortlisting the companies. then gatering numbers of the concerned person and have a word and try to impress the person and prove ur worth in the company asa prospective candidate that can add value to their business.
