Dog Lover Product

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Hi - I need to market a product that is targeted to dog lovers (the product is door knockers being marketed as DogKnockers-the door knockers are actually the heads of specific breeds) I am a small business so budget is a big issue - I have been looking a dog specific breed website and advertising on their newsletter. I would also like to consider piggybacking my catalog with a magazine or creating an insert for dog specific magazines - is there a centralized place where I can find a listing of such publication along with their media kits? Also considering banner ads and would appreciate a recommendation of a company that I can work with to place ads on dog specific sites (NOTE I do not want ads on my site). I was looking at a company called 1800banner ads but not sure if they are reputable.

Of course I need this information yesterday - any help is appreciated.

The centralized place is google. keep googling to find what you are looking for.

Also, look at the New Yorker magazine small display ads - might work well for this product.

Also, learn about social media marketing. It's fastest cheapest way to get exposure and drive traffic to a site of your chose.

Make short video's (15 sec) of the dogknockers in action, funny would help.

    good luck

if you had the dogs head on the front of the door as the knocker - I'm just wondering what part of the dog you could use on the inside of the door for the spy hole........???

    Hi Carmilla,

Shoot the Editor of www.bowzer.biz an email, pitching a story idea featuring your product. It's a wonderful ezine geared specifically to dog lovers. The cost if your story runs - zero. Definitely worth a shot.

I would subscribe as well...may be a good resource for you, if you were hoping to partner with another small business or do some co-op e-marketing.

    Here's their Twitter page - www.twitter.com/bowzertweets

    Cheers!

I agree with Jc, social media will go a long way for you on a tight budget. Don't underestimate the power of sites such as myspace and facebook. Definitely do online searches with words like "dog lover forums" and join the communities.

Word of mouth goes a long way.

    I hope that helps.

    Good Luck!

    Hi, Carmilla!

    2 ideas:

Re your query on dog specific magazines,
"is there a centralized place where I can find a listing of such publication along with their media kits?" -- yes!

Go to https://goodsource.tripod.com/ and click on the Business category. It has several media links to search for appropriate publications. Once you're on the pubs. website, look for the media kit/contact us area.

Also, on the main page of https://goodsource.tripod.com you'll see a shelter link. Click to go to a site that lets you click so food will be donated to shelter animals with sponsors (not you) paying for the food. That same site sells dog items and a % of the sale is supposed to help animals. Check it out and see if that site might be something you think would be good to partner with/display your product.

    All the best,

It seems to me this is the sort of product which someone would need to see -- that it is an impulse purchase. If I were marketing this product, I would certainly go to dog shows and events, and I wonder if there are rep firms which are calling on pet supply stores, and you could promote and sell your product.
