Proposal To Expand My Positon And Contract Length

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
I am a school administrator currently under a 10 month contract, even though the other admin in my school are 12 month. My position was developed and introduced 7 years ago as a supplemental position, but has grown into a key admin position on par with the others but still paid under a 10 month structure. My license and experience are on par or in excess with all others, my workload is equal to them, and my authority is equal to them. Through careful accumulation of stipend-based pay supplements, I am currently paid for only 9 days less than the 12-month contracted admin, but they get a paid vacation while I receive unpaid furlough.

Without an appropriate pay structure, I will be obliged to leave this position to advance my own career, and the school itself will have little option to hire an inexperienced replacement due to the inordinately low pay grade. I want to fix the pay grade so that I can both advance my career and leave the school in a position to recruit and hire a more experienced replacement for me when I eventually do expand my career horizons.

Speaking as a former school board member.....

Talk about the high cost of replacing what you do. Then, try to get them to move you to the 12 month and vacation deal. Unless....you really don't want to stay.

My guess is that when you leave they'll put in place who they can (some teacher who's working on her admin cert) and not be overly concerned with how well the job is done. That's the reality of it.
