Be aware that running your own e-mail blasting is fraught with dangers.

For one, is your IP address white listed or black listed? Can you capture all necessary status reports back to your system (hard bounce, soft bounce, etc).

If you operate on a fully qualified, opted-in, limited client list, then there are less issues of course. But if your list is extensive and dotted with old, new and purchased e-mail addresses, you might be better of spending the money on an ESP or a server-based solution with proper vendor backup.

Seconding Paul Kemper's post.....There are so many choices in the marketplace at all levels of sophistication it can make a marketer's head spin. Believe me. We see it all the time.

If you are thinking about sending out unsolicited email (please don't) you better make that first send count because you are likely to get shut down fast.

If you are going to practice permission-based marketing there are plenty of low-cost, reputable choices that offer free trials...ConstantContact, Vertical Response, iContact come to mind immediately.

Mail Chimp is user friendly, cost effective, web-based and you can pull comprehensive analytics (this is what I'm currently using).
