Mkting Idea For Corp. But I Have No Experience

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I saw a similiar question asked on this forum and the conclusion was to either start a consulting business or apply for a job at a marketing company.

I am in my fifties, have been a stay at home mom for over 15 years. I don't think I'm very marketable at this point for a marketing position but I have a great idea for an existing condom company. I have shared this idea with numerous friends who all feel it is a very interesting/catchy idea.

There is a "tag line" or phrase connected to this idea which I have applied for a federal trademark.

It seems highly unlikely I will have success contacting the marketing department at the corporation so what are my options.

Thanks

There are, unfortunately, no good options for you unless you have a bunch of money that you're willing to invest. Let me explain:

The major manufacturers/marketers of condoms do not accept submissions from "unknown" sources because they're afraid you'll come to them with an idea they already have, and if they then market it you'll claim they stole the idea from you.

The marketing costs for a new condom brand/product are significant. Unless you can demonstrate (with hard data) that the product will sell it's unlikely that any investor will put money into the project. The distribution costs alone could run to millions of dollars.

It's a shame, in a way. You may really have a good idea, but getting it to market is almost impossible in our system. And the investment required to find out what it's worth is likely to be more than you'll want to put into it.

Sorry to have to be the bearer of such disappointing news, but I wouldn't want to mislead you and provide false encouragement. Maybe someone else here will have some clever ideas.

Thank you MGoodman for the reply

It might not matter but I don't have a new product idea, it's an advertising/marketing idea with the products they already manufacture. It specifically targets the high school/collage group.

I see your point though regarding the legal aspect.

You could alternatively do-it-yourself, printing your message and distributing it to a high school/college group (hoping to get some PR to build interest in your offering): https://www.allcondoms.com/custom.htm

The Trademark will only help you if you have the funds to ensure no improper use and to defend yourself in court.
