Anyone Attending The Clio Awards/conference?

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
This will be my first time attending and I will be going solo. What should I expect? Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated. Thanks everyone, and for all the moms out there HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

    Alexg,

If you're a people watcher, you're in for a treat.

Expect lots of egos and incredible numbers of people who have had far too much to drink. You'll also see astonishing displays of wealth, lots of bad plastic surgery, and people who believe that they are ad gods. You could create categories for people (Egotist, Wannabe Ad God, Hack, Prima Donna, and so on) and see how many points you could rack up.

But because this year's shin dig is in Vegas, what happens in Vegas ...!

But, as with so many events that promise so much but fail to deliver, once will probably be enough for you.

Just remember that an award is one thing, but what really matters is, did the creative work help sell stuff. If it did, great. if it didn't, the Clios, much like so many ad award events, is a glorious excuse for the industry to tell itself how great it is.

Enjoy it and report back with your findings if you've a mind to.

Wow! I hope to find laid-back and nice individuals to chat with or else I'll be solo all night. I definitely don't fit into any of the categories you mentioned which is a good thing! Thanks for the response.
