Is Mylife A Worthwhile Social Networking Site?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I received an invite today to join MyLife (www.mylife.com). It appears to be a way to aggregate other social networking searches, and see who is searching on you.

I was not able to learn much about it without joining. My main professional social networking site I use is LinkedIn, which provides me a high level of value, both in my professional life as well as keeping up with old friends and co-workers.

I had not heard of MyLife until today. Is this site worth subscribing to, or is it just another social networking site out to waste everyone's valuable time? Looking for the straight scoop from people who have actually used the site as well as people who have passed on signing up on this site.

    hi stlubahn,

Funny, I checked it out a few weeks ago, no strong impressions so I passed. I would suggest twitter instead. Be sure to google for the many tools that will make your twitter experience all that it can be.

    happy twits,

    Hey stlubahn,

This is the first I have heard of it. Not a very popular site I suppose but that doesn't mean it won't catch on.

    Dear Stlubahn,

I also came across MyLife a few months ago and didn't really
    pay it that much attention.

But recently, I changed my mind.

    Here's why

This site, which was set up in July 2007, receives 2,000,000 visitors every month!

That's 66,000 plus visitors EVERY DAY. And these numbers will increase over the next few months.

With 87.5% of their site visitors being here in the United States
    here's a question for you?

How badly do you want to be found?

Think about it. I hope this helps.

If memory serves me mylife is the reconstituted/renamed classmates.com.

In my opinion, they are spammers and give nothing of value away. I personally believe the real value comes from facebook, myspace and linkedin. All of these sites provide considerable value - for free.

I look at it this way...
There are only so many hours in a day, and it's hard to maintain multiple sites at the same time. I would rather concentrate on the big, popular sites like Twitter & Face book, and do a really good job on them, then to participate in every site and just be able to do a mediocre job.
