My suggestion: Find 5 or 6 people who are doing what you want to do and see if you can get each of them to spend 30-45 minutes helping you out. Best if you can do this face-to-face, and be sure to take good notes. Be prepared before the meeting with a few high-gain questions and then let your contacts talk. You just listen and take notes.

When you've finished all the interviews, review your notes and analyze what they've told you. If you do a good job of this, you'll have the answers to all your questions.

    Dear nikko_fox,

Well, you're not asking for much, are you?

Hmm. Sounds like a homework question to me too. But what the heck!

Don't get all bent out of shape about digital this or that. Instead, learn how to write great copy, lean how to find out what it is that people want (needs, solutions to problems, and so on), figure out how to offer great value, then offer even MORE value, and learn how to over deliver.

You do all this by studying your butt off as you follow and consume the work of Dan Kennedy, Frank Kern, John Carlton, Yanik Silver, and many other online marketing "superstars" and you learn the hard way: by getting it wrong.

    Rinse and repeat.

    I hope this helps.

    Dear Nikko,

I would say nothing will work better than experience. Start your own site and market it. Google, read, implement and repeat.

Doing this you will keep yourself abreast of the latest trends in online marketing that actually work and you can just transfer that expertise/experience to your clients websites then.

    Hope this helps.
