The history of mail order selling is facinating and will give you practical business background too. Or a history of pitchmen can be very interesting too - the medicine show selling. PT Barnum is a master of business in almost every area - inventing the raincheck, selling items people didn't want by raffling them off, purchasing group buying of goods for retail stores, advertising - and most of all publicity. He also was a very good man with an incredible business sense. Good luck!

    Dear elsa_wong11,

You're doing a masters degree in management. But management of what?

Here, your professors are FAILING to give you even the tiniest piece of advice and if you can't make a simple decision like this, of what use are you going to be in the world of work as a manager?

By questioning the suggestion's Bill's offered you're not really giving any real direction as to what may or may not be of use to you. Could you tell us what you are interested in, tell us what you see yourself doing, career-wise?

By doing so you'll help us help you.

    Hi all,

I am currently doing pure management, which include modules like marketing, business economic etc. But on my work, i am willing to focus on marketing. Actually I am also a new manager of a bar and restuarant, I want to promote and advertising it really well to attract more customers, this is the reason why i choose to do topic abot marketing and restuarant. But i found it hard to take restuarant or bar as a topic... therefore i m confused now..

    Many thanks

    Dear Elsa,

You're the new manager of a bar and restaurant but you found it hard to take "restuarant or bar' as a topic?

You're confused? But ... well, I cannot begin to imagine where that leaves me, but let us soldier onward!

The late Gary Halbert once challenged a group of marketing students. He offered them the best location for an eatery, the best prices, and the best food. All they had to do was promote the place. But he told them he'd beat them all with one, simple element he'd neglected to offer them and an element none of
them had thought about, and it's this: a hungry, thirsty crowd.

Pull in (or position your restaurant and bar in front of) a hungry and thirsty crowd and you'll never want for business. What does this mean? Two for one specials, frequent dining clubs, half price dessert with a full price entree, full bottle of wine for the price of a carafe, wine by the bucket, theme dinners, theme drinks nights, kids eat free dinner specials, all you can eat soup and salad Saturdays, your dinner in 15 minutes or less or it's free. Gimmicks?

No. Once people are in a restaurant or bar, they seldom leave without spending money.

    I hope this helps.
