Brand Alignment In The Hotel Sector

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am currently undertaking a Masters in Marketing and need some help with my thesis. I am interested in looking at branding in the hotel sector and how the perception of the brand i.e. by both management and staff is aligned or misaligned with customers' external views and/or expectations.

I would really appreciate some advice on what is the best way to research this topic and whether I should look at a comparative study between 2 hotels or hotel groups.

KISS factor, while hotel holding companies can have multiple brands; compare two extremes:

Days in for budget/casual and Marriott for business.

Both branded in diametric markets and cater to their customers in so many different ways.

As an Orlando resident, and seeing how hotel occupancy has been hurt here, nationally and globally; may be a nice subclass in your thesis on how your chosen brands have reacted both short and long tern to slow down.

    Dear MJ,

A student who is able to ask an intelligent question AND who is able to provide evidence that they've done and are prepared to do some of their own thinking and research is a rare thing. Well done.

I've recently obtained (and am currently listening to in the car) a fantastic interview with Chip Conley, the founder and CEO of Joie de Vivre Hospitality - California's largest boutique hotel group.

    www.chipconley.com/ -

In the interview, Chip discusses his recent book "Peak: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow", an unabridged audio version of which you can find at https://www.audible.com for only $7.49.

Your point about "how the perception of the brand i.e. by both management and staff is aligned or misaligned with customers' external views and/or expectations."?

Chip goes into this precise subject in STACKS of detail in his interview and although I've not yet read his book, it's on my list as a must read.

If I can help with anything else, contact me off forum by clicking on my name at the top of this post. Otherwise, good luck with your thesis.

    I hope this helps.
