Is The Mba Worth It As Job Security???

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am an airline pilot currently on furlough and headed back to my company this December, 2009. Over the past year I was furloughed, I started an MBA at the University of North Texas with their online program in Strategic Management. My question is do you think it would be worth the investment? I just turned 24 and basically want to finish up my MBA then pursue some extra accounting hours to get my CPA. I have a lot of sit around time in airports and on layovers so the only think I'm really losing out on (i'm getting paid to basically study) is tuition costs. Although UNT is not a highly ranked MBA program, its completely online which allows be the flexibility I need. I guess what my underlying question is will an MBA and a CPA without extensive background in business (except for my crew resource management) be a good back up plan if I ever get furloughed again? With my experience and qualifications, what kind of jobs could I get if I had a high GPA with my MBA and a CPA??

    Hi,

In today's world there is nothing like job security, but definately, MBA would give you edge. Pertaining to the job, you will be getting jobs in the field of:
    1. Marketing'
    2. Brand Management
    3. Business Developement

    Dear SkierGuy72,

If the MBA will help you get a better job, go for it. As to the kinds of jobs you could apply for? Well, the answer to that is pretty much any job you wanted.

    I hope this helps.

Do you want to be an accountant? That's pretty much the main reason to get a CPA, otherwise you're just wasting time that could be better spent professionally (networking, earning other certificates, self-studying more relevant topics, interning, starting a small business, etc).
