Do you have extensive real-world experience yet?

Dear palurister,

What do you intend to do with your Ph.D?

What value will it bring?

Will studying more and more about less and less reveal anything of value in the world of branding that's not been seen or heard of before?

Or is it better to put your education to use in the corporate world?

How do your graduate and post grad studies prepare you for work? What extra benefits will a doctorate give you that you don't already have? Status? The only person buying this is you, but what value and benefits will your Ph.D confer upon the industry of marketing as a whole?

Will another seven years of study make you any more employable than someone without a doctorate unless you're heading for some government think tank that produces lots of theory but little of practical use to commerce, business, and industry?

I'm all in favour of continued education, but not at the expense of an open mind getting trapped into some academic treadmill.
