This forum is a wonderful place to get real world insight from marketing professionals and I would encourage you to use it as such. You can learn a lot if you put the effort in to do that! However, it isn't a place for you to cut and paste homework problems and have us answer them! This isn't much effort and you won't learn anything in doing so. Plus, your professors know about us and frequently read this forum. I believe that taking answers you obtain here and representing them as your own would be a violation of your school ethics rules and your professor can, at the very least, give you a failing grade on the assignment, fail you for the class, or even expel you from school! I don't think you'd want that to happen, right?

The right way to use the forum is for you to post your thoughts here after you've read your text and class material and done some research on your own. Then, we would be glad to lend you some of our thoughts and real world experience to round out your educational investment. To this end, I look forward to hearing from you.

You may want to read the Important Guidelines

    Pay particular attention to #5:

Experts are happy to help students explore their thoughts, but they will not do their assignments for them. If you are a student, be sure to share your own ideas along with your question.

I look forward to reading your thoughts and commenting on them!

I think the issues can be
    1. Product performance –
    2. Customer Knowledge and Education on the Product –
    3. Developments by small companies have failed to flourish through lack of funding.
    4. Price factor of a product is a issue For a successful new product development.
how can i add examples to these issues. Or if u can suggest some other issues.

Good thoughts. Thanks for sharing. Help me out here: What are you considering textile products? Give me an example of one that you would consider successful.

Can you think of ones that have failed - for whatever reason?

You should have access to online article services through your school library - EBSCO, etc. If you searched for product failures, you should get hits on some stories. Here, would be product areas within textiles.

Textile Products can be Towels , sheeting or may be Medical Textile or Automobile Textiles. Successful new product is which gives desirable amount of profit and cover the cost of R&D.
The failed product is silk bamboo cotton towels which didnt do well in the market.

I am a online student thats why dependent upon online search.

    Mahak,

Google searching for business and school related information is not such a good idea. There's a lot of junk on the internet that isn't factual. Does your school have an online library that has links to some of the article databases - EBSCOhost, Proquest? If not, you may have to go to your public library to do a literature search.

Searching "textile product failure" in EBSCOhost yielded 121 articles. Same in Proquest resulted in 242 articles. I did not review each to see if they were all relevant - probably not. But, probably some.

I Googled the same and there's probably some examples you can use there too.

If you don't find enough, you can break it down by categy - like towel marketing product failues or medical textile product failure.

So silk bamboo didn't work - why do you think it didn't work, given the reasons you mentioned above for why any product would fail?

Actually i was working in Textile industry for 4 years and was doing sampling for these towels in my last job and after first lot of production this towel got discontinued as it does not gave desirable results the product performance was poor.

So thats why i used this example. Actually the assignment was to find Issues with New Product development. So i tried to approach this with the reasons why a product fails.

OK, good! You have some first hand experience to work from. So take what you have learned (the reasons you mentioned in the previous posting) and discuss why this product failed. A couple factors that caused products to fail from my experience: Lack of clear understanding of needs and value proposition. A company's engineering team can come up with technical solutions that are elegant, but consumers may not have problems that are solved by these solutions. This is termed "Invent it and they will come..." The cost the consumer pays for the product is too high compared to any value he may attain from the product.

I'm not very familiar with the textile industry - so I can't come up with other examples. What I'd recommend is you use you experience and especially you contacts. If you don't know more examples, call your contacts you made over that four years and ask them for examples.

You are on the right track here, Mahak! Take it a little further based on your experience and your contacts and you have it. Give two or three examples with an analysis of why these failed and then pose other issues that can come up. Given this, you're done.
