Should I Focus On Emarketing Or Web Design?

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Hi everyone, I have recently built myself a website to try and get some freelance work www.digitalmarcomms.co.uk I am a bit stuck as to whether to optimise my site based on niche keywords such as email templates or should I just go for the big ones like website design? I would really appreciate anyone with expertise having a look at my site and letting me know any thoughts - it is my first website in CSS. Thanks

Optimize for both, if you wnat web design work and e-marketiing work.

    Dear Jamie,

I agree with Harry. You might also want to consider optimizing
each page for related keywords and phrases (but without overdoing things).

As well as this, you might want to consider getting into the habit
of posting comments on topically related (website design, and marketing) authority based sites (forums and blogs in your niche), and make your comments specifically related to the topic under discussion and make your comments unique in terms of their content, and also make sure that each entry like this links back to related pages on your site.

This will help build your SEO ranking.

    I hope this helps.

Being in similar business for ages I think fundamentals are the issue: customer already know what e-mail, website and landing pages are. Only possibility is to be more creative, offer more sexy and attracting visuals and robust technology. Latter can be covered by certifications or customer testimonials, former is the one your website front page should be describing. 100 % of your visitors will see the front page, rest of the content is evidence of your capabilities.
Redo the front page, focus on one emotionally & artistically oriented visual element, minimise text to SEO centric key words.
Then you can start sending out your best e-mail templates to prospects inviting them to your showroom.

    Cheers

In truth, moving from 20 million search results to a half million results makes no difference whatsoever.

You will never be in the first 100 pages let alone the first page, so abandon this wasted effort and instead focus on having the deepest understanding of what your target buyer needs and communicating in a clear and compelling manner how your unique services satisy this need.

I have hired many dozens of freelance agencies over the years, many for eactly what you do, so here is some additional feedback.

Your home page makes you look like a bunch of propeller-head programmers (a very good thing, btw) but I don’t see the creative side that you also need. Your home page needs to show off your creative and design skills as well - show more examples. If you don’t have any yet, then do free work for charities and local businesses to build your portfolio. You will feel good about helping mankind and you may be surprised at the cool stuff you can barter for with the locals.

    Cheers, John

(Aside: take a look at your Website Grader report: https://websitegrader.com/site/www.digitalmarcomms.co.uk for tips)

Go for terms that people are searching for, that are underserved, and you can rank strongly in.

Email templates: 60,500 searches in Google in December.
Website designer: 673,000 searches in Google in December.

Given your website, I'd suggest focusing on a specific niche in the UK to ensure that you're not just "another marcomm provider online", but one that specializes and understands the needs of a niche.
