Telling Story

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Good men and women of this great forum,

Here I am again kneeling down before you begging for imparting your wisdom and power to remove possible fear and mistrust of my beloved customers.

Ok, in all earnestness, how do we put forward a telling story with an email to total strangers to convince them that XYZ product would help him/her with their study?

One thought is to hire one creative person from an Ivy League to create a short video and embed it with the email ...

What are your thoughts?

Many thanks as usual.

Don

A single email to someone who doesn't know anything about your product is unlikely to produce the results you want. Instead, why not focus your marketing on those students who are recently on academic suspension? Give them the software for free in exchange for a testimonial/case study. If you can show that you're part of the solution to boosting grades, then you have a story that can be shared.

Not sure what Ivy League has to do with this.

I'm a strong believer in email marketing, and the message has to be right. But, the right target is even more important.

Consider someone with a plugged shower drain (like I spent my weekend working on!) After 3 days I would read just about any email offering help...whether I knew them or not. Of course I'd be research the company. But certainly I wouldn't be offended that they emailed me.

Michael, thank you for your excellent thoughts. On "research the company", I'm a start-up, what could I possibly do to make prospects to feel trustworthy and all that?

    Hi Don,

    I feel your pain :)

Take a look at thw web site of my good friend Ed Strachar.

    https://www.readinggenius.com/

He is facing a similar problem and his approach is perfect :)

Firstly you need to explain to potential customers that they have a proble. In fact, most of them don't know that they have a problem with note taking because they have been doing it 'their way' for years and they are fine with it. (just like reading) So you have to show them why their way is the wrong way.

Once you have convinced them that there is a better more efficient way, then you need to explain why YOUR soluition is the only solution that they need and why they need to downlaod it ASAP.

    It is basically that simple.

A couple of strong Testimonials in your email from users who have improved their note taking 1,000 times is also very very important.

I cannot stress enough theimportantce of believable testimonials.

    1. Explain that they have a proble
    2. Show them that you have the solution
    3. Show them the PROOF (ie testimonials of users who benefitted ).
    4. Ask for the sale (don't be shy to ask them to BUY it. Don't forget this important step and don't be wishy washy.
Nice fat button brightly coloured that says 'BUY IT NOW'.

    Questions?

Does it work on iPhone? - iPad is out today - is it compatible?

Does it work on other smart phones and touch screen devoces? if not, why not?

Is there a FaceBook application version?

    if not, why not?

Feel free to get in touch if you need further ideas or help.

    Good luck,

    Matthew

    Matthew,

Thank you for your thoughts. I'll get into specifics some time soon, my site is working quite well, but of course I'm always looking for ways to improve it....

    Best,

    Don
